about me

Hello!

I am Anh. I traveled all the way from my homeland Vietnam to the States with no baking and cooking skills. I have heard a lot from people that cooking is one of your living skills. I didn't agree with that until we (David- my husband and I) settled down on the farm in Kent, CT- my very first home here and our first love nest. A lovely spot in the middle of nowhere and I started to learn how to feed us. I took over the kitchen from my husband, with the nearest market a 40 minute drive back and forth. I learned to cook most of our meals from scratch with everything we raised on the farm (eggs, chicken, pork, and a garden built with love from David). My joy for cooking grew stronger as I completed the culinary program at the Community Culinary School of Northwestern Connecticut in New Milford, CT where I trained to become a chef and received my Servsafe certification.

Then, the pandemic came! I know!!! We were already isolated on the farm, so it was not too difficult. I also opened my lovely Bed & Breakfast, which I ran for two years, the Cozy Inn of Connecitcut. David loved freshly baked bread but I hated baking at that point. One of the reasons was language barrier, yes, you are reading right. I couldn’t understand a bread recipe precisely. Not long after that, we had a bon fire with our neighbors, a nine-year-old boy came to us and offered us a cookie made by him. I was impressed and inspired. In my culture, cookies and baked goods are usually store-bought. Me at 9 years old didn’t know how to eat properly and this boy baked something and it was gooood.

So, I had a desire from my husband, the expectations of my B&B guests, and inspiration from the amazing little boy. With that, I started with the most popular easily-made recipe for any home baker. Your guess is right: Banana bread! My first loaf was a success, giving me a bit of motivation. I kept baking and trying hundreds of recipes I saw every where, magazines, Internet, museums…

I have to be honest to you, I don’t even know since when the passion and love for baking started to grow soooo big that when David had a job offer in Iowa, I wanted to go to a pastry school. I attended the Baking Certificate Program at Kirkwood College, and got my certificate and updated Servsafe Food Handler certification

Here I am, launching my cottage kitchen, and so excited to bake your orders! I use the finest ingredients, including real butter, and make every thing from scratch as much as I can; an excellent habit I still maintain since the pandemic.
